CHECKOUT PAY NOW

What Is Copilot Checkout?

Copilot Checkout enables customers to complete a full purchase transaction inside a Microsoft Copilot conversation. The shopper discovers a product, receives recommendations, and pays — all without leaving the AI chat. Launched January 2026, it’s the first major in-AI checkout solution at scale.

New 2026: Shopify merchants are automatically enrolled. PayPal and Stripe merchant applications are now open via Microsoft Advertising.

Eligibility & Requirements

Copilot Checkout is available to merchants who meet the following criteria:

  • Active Microsoft Advertising account in good standing
  • Shopify store (auto-enrolled), or PayPal/Stripe integration (application required)
  • Product catalogue submitted to Microsoft Merchant Center
  • Products priced in supported currencies (USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, CAD)
  • Compliance with Microsoft Advertising merchant policies

Shopify Setup: Auto-Enrolment

Shopify merchants are automatically enrolled in Copilot Checkout following an opt-out window. Your Shopify checkout is used as the payment infrastructure, so no separate payment integration is required.

Steps to verify your enrolment

  1. Log into Microsoft Advertising and navigate to Tools → Microsoft Merchant Center
  2. Check for a Copilot Checkout notification or status indicator
  3. Verify your product feed is active and passing validation
  4. Ensure your Shopify store URL is verified in Merchant Center

PayPal & Stripe Integration

Non-Shopify merchants using PayPal or Stripe can apply for Copilot Checkout access through the Microsoft Advertising partner programme.

To apply: visit about.ads.microsoft.com and search for “Copilot Checkout merchant application”. Stripe noted in their announcement that Microsoft is “making it easier and faster for merchants to thrive in the agentic commerce era.”

Product Feed Optimisation for Checkout

Your Microsoft Merchant Center product feed is the data source Copilot uses to recommend and display your products. Feed quality directly impacts Checkout conversion rates.

High-impact feed fields

  • title: Include key attributes (brand, material, size, colour)
  • description: Write for AI consumption — clear, factual, structured
  • image_link: High-res product images on white/neutral background
  • price: Keep in sync with your live storefront
  • availability: Real-time stock status reduces checkout abandonment
  • product_type: Accurate taxonomy improves Copilot matching

Optimisation & Performance

Once live, Copilot Checkout performance can be tracked in Microsoft Advertising under Campaigns → Conversions. Key metrics to monitor:

  • Checkout initiation rate: Users who click into checkout from Copilot
  • Checkout completion rate: Completed transactions
  • Average order value: Compare vs other channels
  • Return rate: Track for product quality signals
